Orchestre Poly-Rythmo @ Harbourfront Friday!

On Friday night, Benin's badass Afro-funk ensemble Tout-Puissant Orchestre de Poly-Rythmo de Cotonou will be making their long awaited Toronto debut at Harbourfront some 43 years after forming. No less amazing than the fact that the legendary T.P. Orchestre Poly-Rythmo are flying over from West Africa to play a 90-minute show in Toronto with no cover charge is that what promises to be the concert event of the summer is being largely overlooked by local radio, television, print and online media.

Of course, there's a lot going on that same night with J.C. Brooks and the Uptown Sound at the Horseshoe, Iron Maiden joining Alice Cooper for an oldies night at Molson Amp, Diplo getting busy with Skrillex and Grimes at Fort York and don't forget Conor Maynard,  aka the Brit Bieber, will be crooning covers for screaming teens at the Mod Club.

In any case, to get you up to speed for Friday night's Poly Rythmo blast, here's a fantastic hour-long mix of Poly-Rhythmo's classic 70s jams put together for the always on-point Paris DJs site by collector ZjAk and his pal WaaterproOf aptly named 100% Poly-Rythmo.
