Greg Prevost's pre-Chesterfield Kings late 70s recordings revealed!

Well-timed to coincide with his new book, Chesterfield Kings frontman Greg Prevost gets his early recordings issued by Penniman.

Here's the scoop...

If you are a fan, you probably know that Greg Prevost played in different bands before forming the Chesterfield Kings. Only one of them, the Distorted Levels, released a 7" at the time, in 1978. But there were many more. You may have heard or read about mystery bands such as Mr. Electro & The Void, The Cutdowns, Mr. Electro and the Psychedelic Burnouts, etc. They all recorded profusely, but most master tapes eventually disappeared, in no less mysterious circumstances. Still, some recordings survived...and here you have a selection of this material: all demos, all previously unreleased, plus the Distorted Levels 7”, as well as five tracks (six on the CD format) recorded by the early Chesterfield Kings line-ups from 1978-79.

Gatefold sleeve, detailed track-by-track notes by Greg, including over 30 photos / press-clippings from his personal archive, and liner notes from Mike Stax (Ugly Things magazine), whose final verdict of this whole artifact could not be more exact: “Barbaric. Crude. Primitive. Beautiful".

You can pre-order Greg 'Stackhouse' Prevost's Vintage Violence directly from Spain's Penniman Records right here and grab a copy of his comprehensive Chesterfield Kings book, On The Street I Met A Dog right here here. Check out the Vintage Violence track list followed by the Distorted Levels single "Hey Mister" b/w "Red Swirls" from 1978.

Greg Prevost previews new album with 13th Floor Elevators cover

Chesterfield King Greg 'Stackhouse' Prevost cut a great version of the 13th Floor Elevators' "Splash 1" for his new album. Listen below.

Here's the scoop on Greg's new album...
Songs for These Times is Greg 'Stackhouse' Prevost's third solo album. A live-in-the-studio, acoustic guitar in hand experience, with the sole backing of “brother” Alex Patrick on counterpart slide or acoustic lead. Along with selected favorites that he has always wanted to record acoustically, Prevost has also included some of his own newly written compositions as well, which, as pointed out by David Fricke in the album liner notes— perfectly fit in a track-list of tunes written over half a century ago. "Songs For These Times"-A classy, honest record in which Prevost–with no backing band or electricity--showcases his musical DNA, as well as the style and attitude that have always been his trademark, and will continue being so.

Mastered by Bob Irwin.

Penniman Records have pressed 50 extra copies of the LP on WHITE vinyl! Get yours before it’s too late! Pre-order via www.pennimanrecords.com
