Greg Prevost reunites with ex-Chesterfield Kings pals in Shitkicker Rebellion

Shitkicker Rebellion's Rick Cona and Greg "Stackhouse" Prevost just released their rippin' debut 45 on Penniman Records.

Here's the scoop...

For Rochester's Greg "Stackhouse" Prevost, 2022 turned out to be an especially fruitful year for his “artistic pursuits.” Greg's memoir On The Street I Met a Dog was published just two weeks before the release of his album Vintage Violence. To properly celebrate this coincidence, a presentation was organized at the legendary House of Guitars in Rochester. For such a special event, a book signing was scheduled, spiced up with free pizza, a “party” atmosphere, and a small, unannounced live performance. Greg was joined by his “brothers” and former Chesterfield Kings members Rick Cona (bass), Paul Morabito (guitar), Zachary Koch (drums) and Ryan Moore (lead guitar, piano/organ) from the Low Spirits. Watch some footage from the event below.

The band performed five songs under the name The Shitkicker Rebellion. As expected, it was a blast, leaving both the artists and audience wanting more. Within a couple of weeks, they headed to the studio to record two songs from the brief live set with the idea of releasing a single. Get a copy of Shitkicker Rebellion's debut single right here – covering the Velvets' "White Light White Heat" on the top side with an update of Moving Sidewalks' 60s garage classic "99th Floor" (penned by Billy Gibbons pre-ZZ Top) on the flip.  Check it out followed by a portion of their House Of Guitar in-store performance from December 10, 2022.

Greg Prevost's pre-Chesterfield Kings late 70s recordings revealed!

Well-timed to coincide with his new book, Chesterfield Kings frontman Greg Prevost gets his early recordings issued by Penniman.

Here's the scoop...

If you are a fan, you probably know that Greg Prevost played in different bands before forming the Chesterfield Kings. Only one of them, the Distorted Levels, released a 7" at the time, in 1978. But there were many more. You may have heard or read about mystery bands such as Mr. Electro & The Void, The Cutdowns, Mr. Electro and the Psychedelic Burnouts, etc. They all recorded profusely, but most master tapes eventually disappeared, in no less mysterious circumstances. Still, some recordings survived...and here you have a selection of this material: all demos, all previously unreleased, plus the Distorted Levels 7”, as well as five tracks (six on the CD format) recorded by the early Chesterfield Kings line-ups from 1978-79.

Gatefold sleeve, detailed track-by-track notes by Greg, including over 30 photos / press-clippings from his personal archive, and liner notes from Mike Stax (Ugly Things magazine), whose final verdict of this whole artifact could not be more exact: “Barbaric. Crude. Primitive. Beautiful".

You can pre-order Greg 'Stackhouse' Prevost's Vintage Violence directly from Spain's Penniman Records right here and grab a copy of his comprehensive Chesterfield Kings book, On The Street I Met A Dog right here here. Check out the Vintage Violence track list followed by the Distorted Levels single "Hey Mister" b/w "Red Swirls" from 1978.

Chesterfield Kings' mainman Greg Prevost tells his story in new book

Greg Prevost, frontman of Rochester garage rock rebels The Chesterfield Kings, details his life in music for Misty Lane Books.

Here's the scoop from editor Massimo del Pozzo...

This incredible labor of love was several years in the making. Prevost has dug out from his infinite personal collection anything that a true Rock’n’Roll fan might want to see. Vintage pics, flyers, articles, and historical info about venues, record shops, record labels, concerts, happenings, and previously unheard “garage tales” will make this book essential reading. What makes this even more exciting is the accurate, year-by-year, month-by-month, and occasionally day-by-day report of his personal timeline, as well as his musical growth inside and outside of the Chesterfield Kings.

This book covers in detail the life of a kid born in the fifties who witnessed the many changes in the music scene, all reported with a super-fun and cool attitude. Greg Prevost is not only a collector, writer, musician, and expert about the '60-'70s genuine Rock’n’Roll expression, he has gathered it all together to shape his attitude to become the purest and most honest storyteller. You’ll learn so much about true Rock’n’Roll that your eyes will bleed from looking at the 40 pages of unbelievably cool pictures Prevost has collected since the mid '50s.

Greg Prevost's autobiography On The Street I Met A Dog will be out in a couple of weeks but you can pre-order it from Misty Lane right here.

Greg Prevost previews new album with 13th Floor Elevators cover

Chesterfield King Greg 'Stackhouse' Prevost cut a great version of the 13th Floor Elevators' "Splash 1" for his new album. Listen below.

Here's the scoop on Greg's new album...
Songs for These Times is Greg 'Stackhouse' Prevost's third solo album. A live-in-the-studio, acoustic guitar in hand experience, with the sole backing of “brother” Alex Patrick on counterpart slide or acoustic lead. Along with selected favorites that he has always wanted to record acoustically, Prevost has also included some of his own newly written compositions as well, which, as pointed out by David Fricke in the album liner notes— perfectly fit in a track-list of tunes written over half a century ago. "Songs For These Times"-A classy, honest record in which Prevost–with no backing band or electricity--showcases his musical DNA, as well as the style and attitude that have always been his trademark, and will continue being so.

Mastered by Bob Irwin.

Penniman Records have pressed 50 extra copies of the LP on WHITE vinyl! Get yours before it’s too late! Pre-order via www.pennimanrecords.com

One For The Weekend: Greg "Stackhouse" Prevost

Rochester's Chesterfield King Greg Prevost went on a blues bender in 2015 with Mississippi Murderer which you can temporarily download for free!

Greg Prevost’s career is closely linked to the Chesterfield Kings, but his story does not begin nor end with this band. His beginnings took place in the early to mid-seventies as a singer and guitarist in combos such as Dr Electro & His Psychedelic Retards, Tar Babies, Distorted Levels, Cutdowns, etc, all of them abundantly recorded but minimally released in vinyl.

It has taken him 35 years to make a comeback (of sorts) not related to the Kings, in the shape of an acoustic blues 7” released six months ago and published by this company. Going solo proved to be an exciting experience, and the single was so well received that Prevost decided to wax some personal compositions with the addition of bass and drums. After a few rehearsals with a couple of good friends, he finally entered the studio. The result –cooked throughout several weeks of inspiration—is the album you have in your hands.

Mississippi Murderer (Penniman Records) is a true R’n’R artifact in which the artist seems to be settling scores with his recent past. A three-chord assault with plenty of excellent songs -the kind of numbers that most bands can only aspire to cover- sung by a truly unique voice, featuring plenty of attitude, splendid arrangements and slide guitar a go go. Influences? They come from Prevost’s personal obsessions: the Delta blues, a sound which lies midway between the Yardbirds and the NY Dolls, and, naturally, the Rolling Stones at their best. And these references are not a simple list of R'n'R greats nor the usual hype aimed at potential buyers but exactly what you will get in this record.

For the moment, Penniman Records boss Enric Bosser has kindly made Greg "Stackhouse" Prevost's excellent Mississippi Murderer album free for digital download right here.  Watch for Greg's Universal Vagrant album to be available for free next week. Listen to "Downstate New Yawk Blooze" below followed by live performance from where else? Rochester's legendary House Of Guitars of course.
