Long overdue Massey-Harris recording appears... sort of

Gord Cumming, Scott Bradshaw & pals got with engineer Walter Sobczak to cut a Massey-Harris EP in 2012. Now 8 years on...

Here's The Scoop...
Toronto's Massey-Harris – the band, not the tractor manufacturer – is a mainly acoustic folk/country ensemble fronted by singer/songwriter Scott Bradshaw and slide guitarist Gord Cumming. Other members are Tim Armour on acoustic guitar and harmonica, Jeff MacNeil on bass and mandolin, and Gerry Rozon on snare brushes.

Scott Bradshaw formed country/rock band Scott B Sympathy in the late 80s in Toronto and released the fantastic album Neil Yonge Street (Smokeshow Records) on vinyl and cassette in 1990 which received numerous glowing reviews, airplay on Much Music, and even a CFNY Casby nomination. Scott Bradshaw later fronted The Sympathy, which signed with True North Records.

Gord Cumming was slide guitarist for seminal Toronto 80s indie-rock stars Woods Are Full Of Cuckoos. He later was slide guitarist for Scott B Sympathy. Woods Are Full Of Cuckoos, with Gord included, evolved into legendary Toronto crew The Lawn who signed with A&M.

In 2010, Scott & Gord got together to form the mainly acoustic folk/country ensemble Massey-Harris. During the late summer of 2012, Walter Sobczak (who produced/engineered the first two Scott B Sympathy albums, & engineered The Sympathy's album) recorded and mixed the Massey-Harris EP on tape, the songs of which are being released for the first time. This is a real treat, and magic is in the air on this recording, the only release to date of this ensemble, with the band on hiatus since 2015.

At the moment, the five songs from the self-titled Massey-Harris EP can be heard via Spotify right here but sadly, there are no current plans for a CD or vinyl release. However, if some enterprising individual with a connection to a record label had a reasonable offer to pitch, apparently they would be would be willing to listen. Interested parties should get in touch with Walter Sobczak (https://www.waltersobczak.com/contact-1) and perhaps consider reissuing Scott B Sympathy's Canuck 90s classic Neil Yonge Street too.  Listen to a couple of brilliant tunes Scott Bradshaw penned for Massey-Harris below.
