Garage rippin' Ar-Kaics boast new comp, new drummer and new single

The Ar-Kaics are releasing their new Wick label single "To Be Free" on January 8th but their new Ar-Kives comp is out now.

Here's the scoop...

The Ar-Kaics are back with a double shot of their endangered mode of recreational expression / rebellion, and doing it just for Kaics! Recorded at Daptone amid the gloom and decay of the day, “To Be Free” b/w “Easy” (Wick Records) showcase the band's primitive garage sound in two nasty flights of fancy. Wash it down with the fun punch straight from the bowl, and listen for the proto psych and outright punk nonsense a-brewing. With a new drummer in tow, free & easy is the rally cry for their new lease on psych. Communion for heads and seekers alike!

Hear the Ar-Kaics new "To Be Free" single and pre-order a copy via Daptone right here

Check out The Ar-Kaics' overlooked gems "Why Should I?" and "Let Me In" from their new comp Ar-Kives, Volume One: Singles & Unreleased (Dig! Records) below.

Michael Rault @ The Horseshoe, Tuesday

Michael Rault's new album It's A New Day Tonight is out now on Daptone's Wick Records subsidiary.
Edmonton-born and Montreal-based singer/songwriter Michael Rault began working on songs in earnest for It's A New Day Tonight after winding down the tour supporting his 2015 full-length Living Daylight, but getting to the point of having an album was a process.

"Musically it came out of a period of dissatisfaction, creatively and personally, as I found myself pushing against the limitations of my abilities and approaches to making music."

But those delays eventually paid off. As he was working on Tonight's songwriting, Rault kept entering the orbit of Wayne Gordon, the producer and head engineer at Brooklyn's legendary Daptone studio—first through opening stints for the late firebrand Charles Bradley, then while on tour with Aussie shredders King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard.

Sending Gordon early sketches of some songs led to Rault heading to Daptone for what was initially going to be a two-week recording stint. Midway through that Gordon approached him about signing to the Daptone label's fledgling rock spinoff, Wick Records —and becoming the first Canadian member of the Daptone family. Signing with Wick also led to Rault finishing the record at Daptone and bringing Gordon on as co-producer.

One For The Weekend: Mark Sultan

"Let Me Out" b/w "Be The Blood" by Mark Sultan
Mark Sultan, a garage wunderkind who is also sometimes known as BBQ, has toured and released countless records for his legion of fans the world over. Daptone's garage/psych subsidiary Wick Records are delighted to have the opportunity to make a couple of Mark’s new tunes available for your frugging pleasure and for his debut Wick platter Sultan takes his nous for pop hooks and garage rocking to new levels. You can mail order Mark Sultan's swingin' new single directly from Daptone right here.

LET ME OUT is a snarling acid-punker that’s driven by an urgent beat, paper-cut-thin fuzz guitar and surging organ, it’s a classic garage lament - he just can’t take it and he wants OUT.

BE THE BLOOD jumps out of the gate like a Micheal & The Messenger’s side, and in it’s short life pushes the garage sound to edge of the psychedelic rainbow. Listen to "Let Me Out" below.
