One For The Weekend: OLD

Good to see Brian Taylor is still tearin' it up hardcore-style with Rick White in OLD. Check out "2025" off Not Dead Yet.

Writes Brian Taylor...

"Me and Rick made another OLD record. We made this video for one of the songs last weekend. Why? Because it's fun to do shit.

"Pretty pleased with how all of it turned out. No slow songs, no metal breakdowns, just fast hardcore."

You can get a copy of the latest OLD album Not Dead Yet via Bandcamp here or on vinyl at Rotate This while supplies last.

Rick White shares "Complaints" and more from his new album, Again

Rick White just released "Again," a 14-track selection of the nearly 60 new songs he wrote and recorded over the past few months.

Writes Rick White...

Early in the new year, I decided to write, record and mix a new song everyday for a month. With no real plan, just subconsciously letting stuff flow out quick to see what comes. Not the first time i've used this technique but I got on a really good roll this time, sometimes finishing 2 songs in a day. I ended up going from January 15th to March 10th before i finally burnt out, ending up with nearly 60 fully complete and mixed new songs.

Not all the songs are great of course but i really like a lot of them. It was a really nice productive period. I have enough good ones that i'd like to share, that i'm planning a couple separate releases for this year.

But here's the first, it features 14 favourites that i found fit together really well. I titled the album "AGAIN" to acknowledge this song creating process i've been doing since the late 80's. The cover art represents this as well, with me in my little home studio, tapping into the creative stream, letting the music and art flow.

It feels good to let it out and i'm glad i can do it. I still learn from it all and enjoy the process. I hope it brings you some pleasure listening, thanks so much for the ongoing care.

xo Rick

The album is also available on vinyl through our Bluefog Recordings webstore right here. It comes with a download code for the digital bandcamp version available from the Rick White Archive here.

Rick White and The Sadies collaborative album out Friday

Rick White and The Sadies worked up 13 new songs for their album which is available on translucent green vinyl on June 7th.

Here's the scoop...

13 brand new songs from Rick White and The Sadies' Travis Good, Sean Dean and Mike Belitsky. Together again for the first time since their magical UNINTENDED collaboration in 2003, with more of the swirling melodic psychedelia that only their joined forces could create.

Writes Rick: "I've always had a close relationship with The Sadies. I met Dallas Good in 96 and we hit it off right away. He played in Elevator from time to time and i did lots of artwork and song writing for the Sadies. We shared an apartment in Toronto in the early 2000's and in 2003, Me, Greg Keelor and all the Sadies recorded an album together called THE UNINTENDED. Ever since then we had plans to record another LP together but it never managed to come together before Dallas's untimely death in 2022.

"Well, we've finally done it, thirteen brand new songs filled with sweet melodies and swirling psychedelic guitars like only our special connection could create. The loss of our brother Dallas understandably focusses many of the lyrics on mortality. Of course we had him clearly on our minds while making this album. He may not have physically been here with us, but he is very much a part of it. The lyrics are about the loss of a loved one and the light and dark of life in general. We made this album to help lift us, an album we really like, an album we think Dallas would like too." – Rick

Comes on translucent green vinyl with printed board inner sleeve and download code. Get a copy right here while supplies last. For more info and audio clips, check the Bandcamp site right here.

Rick White salutes The Sadies

Singer/songwriter Rick White recently shared seven songs from his Rick White plays The Sadies tribute project.

Sez Rick White...

I love the Sadies. I love the guys, their big loving family, seeing them play, playing with them in the Unintended or as a guest during one of their concerts. I also think they made a bunch of great albums with many wonderful songs and lyrics. I've been actually planning this project for many years but the shock of Dallas's sudden passing we all experienced in February has finally set me into motion. So now, as a loving tribute to Dallas and the guys, i'm recording my own versions of a bunch of my favourite Sadies songs. Both to help me deal with some emotions, and just to share with you all who may enjoy hearing it too. It's been a great way to really get inside of their lyrics and playing i love at a much deeper level.

Instead of waiting for a full albums worth of songs to be complete, i've decided to upload them here in clumps. Adding more tunes every so often until the 14 i've got planned have been finished.

Thanks for listening, hope you dig it.

Long live The Sadies.

Rick White shares moving tribute to the late Dallas Good

Rick White recorded "Message To Dallas" based on "Rearview Fog" written by the late great Dallas Good of The Sadies.

Writes Rick White...

"Shortly after the shockingly sad news of his passing on February 17th, I really felt the need to write a song for Dallas. He wrote a beautiful tune about our friendship called RIVERVIEW FOG for the Sadies 2017 album "Northern Passages". It makes me cry every time i hear it. It focused on our close brotherhood always remaining strong even though we hadn't been in touch for quite awhile due mostly to my anxiety issues and hermit like seclusion.

"Before i came up with anything new, i started strumming his song and altering the words with one's from my perspective. His lyrics were filled with symbolic bits from our past, songs titles and moments, I tried to make my version similar. It all came together quite naturally and i'm pleased with how it turned out. I think (hope) it is a fitting tribute to the loving relationship we shared over the years. Love you brother.

"I recorded a demo version of the song with just guitar and vocal and have decided to just share it like this to anyone who may be interested. It's free to download if you like, please don't pay for it."

"Message To Dallas" lyrics:

Hello old friend i hope i didn't disappoint you

It's been so long since the last time that i saw you

I thought we would always be the same, but suddenly that changed.

So many times i thought of younger me and you

Strumming through a smoky haze, i know you missed it too

But our lives just simply went off different ways, life is so strange.

And now you're gone into the great beyond

While i sit here just tryna write you one more song.

Though i was far away you'd call each month or two

Sometimes we'd talk, sometimes i wouldn't get back to you

I shouldn't have believed that silly rhyme, no curse of time.

I listened to our old records yesterday

I wish that we could once again just sing and play

But i know that's not possible today

All our favourite colours now are grey, now are grey.

Long gone are the days, they've all passed away, oh yeah.
