Redd Kross shares new single "I'll Take Your Word For It"

Check out the video for "I'll Take Your Word For It" off the forthcoming Redd Kross album. They play Lee's Palace July 29th.

Here's the scoop...

Oh happy day, you are in for a treat with this one, the Janglerrific third single from our forthcoming self titled double album REDD KROSS.

Steven McDonald had this to say about the song and accompanying video:

““I’ll Take Your Word For It” although based on real events it is not about any specific person.  It’s an amalgamation of several types, that so called friend that always seems to bring up the ex, or perhaps a working relationship that ended poorly despite your best and most earnest attempts at civility.  “Are you my friend, are you my foe?  I don’t know”. The video I suppose offers one possible antidote for this situation.  When you’re contemplating telling your nemesis to take a hike, maybe it’s smarter to put on your best suit, matching bass, and matching band (if you’re as lucky as me) and take a hike yourself.  That’s what I did and it made me feel so much better.” – Steven McDonald

And with that we’ll say check out “I’ll Take Your Word For It”.  We hope you dig it.

Masterfully directed by Steve Appleford. Edited by Brian Durkin.

Don’t forget to come see us on our North American Summer tour starting July 2nd. Hott damn!!!

Redd Kross' 35th anniversary 2LP edition of Neurotica to be issued with bonus demos!

The newly remastered double-LP version of Redd Kross's 1987 classic Neurotica comes with 12 previously unissued demos.

Here's the scoop from Redd Kross HQ...

Today we are ecstatic to officially announce the 35th anniversary edition reissue of our beloved NEUROTICA. And baby it’s coming down FAST.  For the purist and newbies alike, we’ve gone back to the original master mixes done by producer Tommy Erdelyi (Tommy Ramone) RIP and had them remastered by JJ Golden of Golden Mastering.  With an outstanding double disc layout by long time co-conspirator Jon Krop and with many never before seen John Scarpati images.  Also included is the original Neurotica demos recorded at Spinhead Studios by the late Phil Newman.  Further details from the fine folks at Merge Records below;

Merge Records is thrilled to release the 35th anniversary edition of Neurotica, the 1987 power pop and alternative rock opus by Redd Kross, on June 24, 2022. The reissue contains the original album, remastered by JJ Golden (Pearl Jam, Thee Oh Sees), as well as 12 previously unreleased demos from the era (rediscovered recently in the archives of the band’s original A&R guy, Geoffrey Weiss).

This special edition of Neurotica will be available worldwide on a single CD as well as 2-LP—the album on translucent turquoise, the demos on translucent orange—housed in in a slick gatefold jacket. Exclusive to the Merge store is a new Neurotica t-shirt, which can be purchased on its own or bundled with the vinyl or CD. Redd Kross completists should check out our Neurotica superbundle that includes both formats of the album plus the t-shirt at a discount.

Today, the remastered version of Neurotica is available on digital service providers for the first time:

Yoko Ono tribute album Ocean Child curated by Ben Gibbard out Friday

Flaming Lips, David Byrne, Yo La Tengo, Sharon Van Etten and Death Cab contribute covers of Yoko Ono's much-maligned tunes.

Here's the scoop...
Death Cab For Cutie's Ben Gibbard, frustrated with the way Yoko Ono's music has been unfairly assailed over the decades – largely out of ignorance – has decided it was time for a rethink of Yoko's songwriting accomplishments. So he called up a few celebrated pals who also happen to be Yoko fans,  including David Byrne, Sharon Van Etten, Stephin Merritt, along with the members of Yo La Tengo,  Flaming Lips, Deehoof and US Girls, to revisit a few of Yoko Ono's compositions and perhaps offer a fresh perspective.

The result is the 14-track Ocean Child: Songs Of Yoko Ono tribute album set for release by Canvasback Music/Atlantic on Friday, February 18th which happens to be Yoko's 89th birthday. Looking over the tracklist, it appears that Gibbard missed an opportunity to have the members of Redd Kross resurrect  their Tater Totz alter ego to reprise their raucous version of "Don't Worry Kyoko" which got them booed off the stage by angry Beatles fans at BeatleFest 1988 in Los Angeles (watch the entertaining footage after the track listing below).

To coincide with Ocean Child's release, there will also be a podcast hosted by Gibbard and Rolling Stone contributing editor & Sirius XM personality Jenny Eliscu who will speak enthusiastically about why Yoko Ono's songs are so darn wonderful with the artists who chose to cover them.

Check out the preview trailer, David Byrne & Yo La Tengo's lullabye-style update "Who Has Seen The Wind?" and Death Cab's jaunty run at "Waiting For The Sun Rise" followed by the track listing and the vintage Tater Totz performance footage from L.A.'s Bonaventure Hotel.

Redd Kross cover When Do I Get To Sing "My Way" by Sparks

Redd Kross are celebrating Ron Mael's birthday today with their release of a Sparks cover from their forthcoming album.
Here's the scoop...
Today, Redd Kross have released “When Do I Get To Sing 'My Way'” the latest single to be lifted from their much anticipated album Beyond The Door out August 23 on Merge Records. On “When Do I Get To Sing 'My Way'" Redd Kross reinterpret the beloved Sparks single with a new blast of fresh hooks and hummable melodies.

About the cover Sparks' Ron Mael says, "Redd Kross has always been one of my favorite bands and that opinion was cemented when I heard their amazing version of our 'When Do I Get To Sing 'My Way.'" To do a version of that song with a completely different musical approach from the original while keeping every ounce of the original sentiment was an amazing feat. I love it!"
