Bloodshot Bill releases another rockin' album, "So Fed Up!"

Here's the scoop...

Bloodshot Bill is back with So Fed Up!, his brand new album on Goner Records. He recorded So Fed Up! straight to tape at his own SIN Studios, the way he always does it: fast, loud, and in control.

This isn’t a collection of love songs—it’s a series of warning shots, a swaggering set of tunes from someone who's been through the wringer and comes out swinging on the other side.

A one-man rock ’n’ roll wrecking crew that is equal parts wild-eyed ‘50s punk, greasy garage rock, and untamed hillbilly howl, Bloodshot Bill hails from Montreal, where he’s known for his raw, lo-fi sound, frantic live shows, and immutable outlaw energy. As his reputation has grown, Bloodshot Bill has been deemed a musical wildman, a primitive, a seminal punk, a throwback to the wild ‘50s, and the deranged spirit of psychobilly madness.

Since his first self-released album in 2001, Bloodshot Bill has churned out seventeen more LPs and over thirty singles—including collaborations with King Khan, Mark Sultan, Deke Dickerson, Shannon Shaw (Shannon & the Clams), and the 5.6.7.8’s. From a suitcase full of self-recorded tapes, he’s built a feverishly prolific body of work that digs deep into the raw roots of mutant rock ’n’ roll.

With So Fed Up, his nineteenth studio album, Bloodshot Bill keeps the fire burning. Written in the aftermath of a breakup and a barrage of unsolicited advice (“Cut your hair?”—come on), the record crackles with the defiance of someone who's had enough and isn't shy about saying so. Relationships—rocky, romantic, and everything in between—have always fueled his craft, but here, there's a new sharpness to the storytelling. These songs don’t just smolder—they cut. Think homemade shiv, or a shard of broken glass: raw, improvised, and dangerously effective.

Tracks like “Talk to You” and “Rule Book” flip the bird to anyone laying down rules on how to fit in, while “Emilina”, “It Happens”, and “Kissin’ Never Listen” carry the kind of no-frills grit that only Bloodshot Bill can deliver. And even amidst the edge, there's a glimmer of something brighter—“Say What U Wanna Say” breaks through with a rare flash of optimism.

So Fed Up is Bloodshot Bill’s fourth album for Memphis-based Goner Records, hot on the heels of the critically acclaimed full-lengths Come Get Your Love Right Now, Get Loose or Get Lost, and Psyche-o-Billy. He recorded the whole thing solo, the minute each song was written. No waiting. No overthinking. No compromises. Just raw sound and gut-level emotion.

“I want people to feel good,” Bloodshot Bill says. “And I want them to wanna listen again and again.”

No comparisons needed. Just Bloodshot Bill, telling it like it is.

For fans of: DIY lifers, greasy ‘50s punk, lo-fi confessionals, and people who don’t wanna be told what to do. Fits perfectly alongside The Cramps, Billy Childish, Oblivians, Dead Moon, and your other essential subterranean jungle dwellers.

Reigning Sound's "Shattered" out Tuesday

Shattered will be Reigning Sound’s first album for Merge and the first full album by the group since 2009’s Love and Curses (In The Red).
The band’s principal songwriter/member is Greg Cartwright, who’s been leading the shifting cast of characters since 2001. You may be familiar with some of the band’s work, as this album is preceded by five studio efforts as well as numerous EPs and live records. Or perhaps some of Greg’s other projects have been on your musical radar: The Oblivians, Parting Gifts, Compulsive Gamblers, 68 Comeback, Deadly Snakes, Detroit Cobras.
As far as Reigning Sound is concerned, this is as good a place to start as any because through many line-up changes and mood swings, the central, constant feature is the way Greg writes songs. This particular embodiment of the band includes longtime keyboardist Dave Amels, who joined the band seven years ago when Reigning Sound recorded an album, consisting mostly of Cartwright’s songs, with former Shangri-Las lead singer Mary Weiss.
Dave proved to be key in putting together the current line-up as well. About three years ago, Greg was asked to make a promotional EP for Scion. Recordings were set to take place in Nashville where he had lined up two local friends to round out the band, but as fate would have it, both had to bow out at the last minute. Luckily, Mike Catanese, Benny Trokan, and Mikey Post—Dave Amels’ bandmates in Brooklyn soul group The Jay Vons—were up for the task. The four flew to Nashville, learned the songs, and recorded them with Greg in a couple of days. Thus was born the group that you hear on Shattered. They’ve been touring and playing together ever since, and Shattered proves that the musical union is both exciting and consistent.
The album was recorded at Daptone’s Brooklyn studio (where drummer Mikey works in the office) and masterfully engineered by Wayne Gordon. The recordings are warm and punchy, a mixed bag of rockers, ballads, and something in between. There are only 11 songs on the album, but the band reckons it’s just right. Check out the track "My My" below.
Vinyl copies of Shattered and the recent repress of  Reigning Sound Live At Goner Records 6-26-2005 LP will be available at Goner (2152 Young Avenue at Cooper) in Memphis on Saturday (July 12) where Greg Cartwright will be playing a solo in-store. Be sure to arrive before 5 pm and yes, it's BYOB.
