Bread & Butter, the first full length LP on Colemine Records and the debut of Ohio's Jive Turkeys –featuring Andrew DeRoberts, Matt Amburgy, Rob Houk and Colemine founder Terry Cole – is nothing but funky, soulful instrumental goodness from start to finish. Buffalo Killers' Andrew Gabbard releases solo album Homemade

Andrew Gabbard has been stockpiling his Beatles-inspired tunes for his solo debut Homemade out now via Karma Chief/Colemine.

Here's the scoop...

A musician whose influences span hard rock, psych, garage rock, and energetic pop, Andrew Gabbard has long been a force on the Southwestern Ohio music scene. Working with Thee Shams, The Buffalo Killers, and currently as The Gabbard Brothers with his brother Zach, Andrew is truly a prolific artist covering a wide range. The Buffalo Killers caught the attention of Dan Auerbach who produced their debut LP and Andrew is currently part of the touring band for The Black Keys. Now joining forces with another Ohio establishment, Colemine Records, Andrew hopes to hone his sound and grow his reach. His first LP as Andrew Gabbard is "Homemade", a mix of hazy pop infused with alt-country vibes that feels part Neil Young, part Wilco, and part Flaming Lips all at the same time.

Get a copy of Andrew Gabbard's Homemade album right here. If Leroi Conroy's nicely shot preview clip (below) doesn't give you enough of an idea of what's in store, the album's opening track "Wake Up, Brother" should.

GA-20 previews Hound Dog Taylor tribute LP with "Let's Get Funky"

GA-20 Does Hound Dog Taylor features updates of the late great Chicago bluesman's whumpin' house rockers.

Here's the scoop...

Hound Dog Taylor
Blues music is revered for its timelessness. The best blues – no matter how old – sounds as fresh and visceral today as it did when first recorded. The high-energy electric blues trio GA-20 – guitarist Matt Stubbs, guitarist/vocalist Pat Faherty, and drummer Tim Carman – know this well. The band’s dynamic self-penned songs sound and feel as fresh and real as the old blues they love and perform, including songs by Otis Rush, J.B. Lenoir, Howlin’ Wolf, Junior Wells and especially their favourite, Hound Dog Taylor.

Legendary six-fingered Chicago bluesman Theodore Roosevelt “Hound Dog” Taylor always knew how he wanted to be remembered, declaring, “When I die they’ll say, ‘he couldn’t play shit, but he sure made it sound good!’” His first full length recording in 1971 was also the first album on now world-famous Alligator Records, Hound Dog Taylor & The HouseRockers. In fact, label president Bruce Iglauer founded Alligator for the sole purpose of recording and releasing that album.

Now, Colemine Records – working in partnership with Alligator Records – will release GA-20’s new full-length album, GA-20 Does Hound Dog Taylor: Try  It…You Might Like It!, featuring 10 songs written or performed by the Chicago blues legend. From the fiery first single and album opener “She’s Gone” to the blistering “Sadie” to the all-time Hound Dog classic “Give Me Back My Wig”, GA-20 deliver one electrifying track after another.

GA-20 Does Hound Dog Taylor: Try it... You Might Like It! is being released by Colemine's Karma Chief subsidiary in co-operation with Alligator Records on August 20th but you can pre-order it right here.

Watch the videos for "Let's Get Funky" and "She's Gone" below followed by a list of GA-20's upcoming tour dates which doesn't include a Toronto show but on the upside, they're splitting a bill with the amazing Ikebe Shakedown in Boston on December 17th.

Harlem Gospel Travelers release new protest single "Fight On!"

The Harlem Gospel Travelers recorded "Hold On!" with guitarist/producer Eli "Paperboy" Reed. Watch the video below.

Group member and songwriter Thomas Gatling says:

“During slavery, songs were a form of communication for black people. These songs became known as hymns, or as our seasoned saints call them, the songs that brought us over. “Fight On!” was inspired by a hymn called ”Hold On (Just A Little While Longer)”, a song used to encourage black people to not give up. Through that song, God gave me ”Fight On!” It was written to amplify the voices that for so long have fallen on deaf ears and to encourage and uplift people to continue the fight for equality and against white supremacy. Be empowered, my people. We are not thugs, we are innovators. We are intelligent and our feelings, hopes, dreams, and lives matter. Fight on, and everything's gonna be alright.” – Thomas Gatling

Video filmed and edited by Sam Graff with protest footage by Jerome Eunis, Brett Roberts, Brad Reeb, Kelly Cahill, and Kathleen Sheehan

Engineered by Vince Chiarito and produced by Eli "Paperboy" Reed

Thomas Gatling - Lead Vocals
George Marage - Vocals
Dennis Keith Bailey III - Vocals

Eli "Paperboy" Reed - guitar, producer
Vince Chiarito - bass, engineer
Noah Rubin - drums, percussion
Colin Brown - organ

All proceeds from track will be donated to The Movement For Black Lives: https://m4bl.org/

GA-20 revisits the rough-cut 60s blues sound of Slim Harpo & Junior Wells

GA-20's Lonely Soul is available in a limited edition red wax version from Karma Chief Records via Colemine. Check it out below.
GA-20 was formed by friends Pat Faherty and Matthew Stubbs – Charlie Musselwhite's longtime guitarist – in Boston last year. The project was born out of their mutual love of heavy traditional Blues, R&B, and Rock & Roll of the late 50s and early 60s. Faherty and Stubbs bonded over legendary artists like Lazy Lester, J.B. Lenoir, Earl Hooker, Slim Harpo, Otis Rush and Junior Wells. Feeling a void in current music, the duo have set out to write, record and perform a modern version of this beloved art form. Live, GA-20 is a trio of 2 guitars, vocals and drums. Raw, passionate and honest performance, both on stage and in the studio, is the only goal.

GA-20's Lonely Soul debut album for Karma Chief Records was produced by Matthew Stubbs, mastered by JJ Golden at Golden Mastering with lacquers cut at Well Made Music and then pressed at Gotta Groove Records where it was housed in a high quality Stoughton tip-on jacket. Get a copy of Lonely Soul from Colemine Records right here. Have a listen to the album after the clip of their recent live set at Paste Studio NYC and their new video for "Crackin' Up".
