Midweek Mixdown: Belly Belly by A Man Called Warwick

Belly Belly is the name of a recent sound clash dance floor session held a few random times in the city of Toronto with selector: A man called Warwick. The focus is on Indo Arabic Balkan and Gypsy flavours strictly using vinyl recordings. After the success of these events, we decided to put together a new mix for those who never made it out to dance or for those curious about these lost sounds. Belly Belly will return again in the fall for another round so please keep your eyes on the Turning Point Facebook page for updates.

DJ and record collector Fredrik Lavik – the man behind Soundway's Kenya Special compilation and Jazz Aggression's Quintonal retrospective – appears on the World Skip The Beat podcast to share some choice selections from his 20000+ collection of Kenyan 7" records. He is currently in Canada for a mini-tour that begins at Montreal's Canicule Tropicale on Friday (February 6) and continues in Toronto on Saturday (February 7) where he'll play a set at A Man Called Warwick's popular Turning Point party at The Garrison (1197 Dundas St. West).

Señor Vishal's tropical treat @ Turning Point

Recently having returned from another vinyl scrounging adventure in a land far away, Señor Vishal promises to rock A Man Called Warwick's popular Turning Point party tonight at The Garrison (1197 Dundas West) with a bangin' selection of rarely heard Afro-Caribbean joints which seems perfectly suited to the sweltering heat we've been experiencing here in Toronto.
