Here's the scoop...
Googoosh, the legendary Iranian singer and actress, has left an indelible mark on the music and film industry with a career spanning over 60 illustrious years. Born in 1950s Tehran, she quickly rose to fame with her first single, "Ghesseh Vafa (گوگوش - قصه وفا)," which remains the highest-selling record in Iranian history. However, Googoosh faced challenges after the Islamic revolution of Iran in 1979, which banned women from singing in public. She was arrested and spent 21 years under house arrest. Nevertheless, Googoosh made a triumphant return to the stage in 2000, selling out concerts worldwide. She performed at iconic venues such as Madison Square Garden, Sydney Opera House, and The Royal Albert Hall, solidifying her status as a global icon. Despite the challenges she faced, Googoosh's music continues to resonate with fans worldwide, reminding us of the universal language of music and its ability to connect people across borders. Check out Googoosh's recorded versions R&B classics "Respect" and "In The Midnight Hour" followed by a few vintage performance clips you might've missed, unless you were tuned into Tehran TV in the late 60s and early 70s.
