Lost 1968 recording by Nanaimo's Glass Cage finally gets released!

Marcus Pollard found a mysterious acetate in a Port Alberni thrift shop which turned out to be the 1968 demo of Nanaimo's Glass Cage.

In the summer of 1968, five Nanaimo, BC teenagers recorded an exciting six-song demo of West Coast garage psych. Cut to an acetate then lost to time for 50+ years. Until now. Watch the story of the Glass Cage's lost recording right here and below.

“A remarkable discovery. The Glass Cage show impressive creativity and versatility as they transition between hard-hitting, organ-driven Northwest R&B slammers and dreamy, harmony-based psychedelic numbers.”Mike Stax, Ugly Things

“I LOVE the Glass Cage!” – Grant Lawrence, CBC Radio

“Newly unearthed garage rock classic ... terrific California-style psychedelia”

Craig “Rockin’ Prof” Morrison, Ethnomusicologist

Finesse & Showbiz's 1991 rap gem "Where You At" gets reissued on 7"

Gold In The Trunk Records has just put out Finesse & Showbiz's "Where You At" b/w "Pete's Theme" as a limited-run single.

Straight outta Nanaimo...

"Where You At" by Finesse & Showbiz is a true anomaly in the music industry – the first official release of a hit song 30 years later. But how?

In January 1991, Nanaimo-based Finesse & Showbiz, fresh off an impressive showing at Vancouver's DJ Sound War, entered an East Van basement studio to record their debut, "Where You At."

Strapped for cash, they duplicated the song onto 100 promo cassettes instead of vinyl, a far pricier option. The group hit the streets and hand-distributed them to DJs, clubs, record labels, and radio stations. Vancouver's LG73 added "Where You At" to its playlist and was immediately flooded with callers requesting the song.

The demand catapulted "Where You At" to #3 on LG's nightly chart, "The Top 8 at Eight." In an era when rap was mostly absent from local radio, this was a rare feat - especially for some young hip-hop heads from Vancouver Island. For 30 years, this nearly lost piece of Van City's hip-hop history has languished on cassette in limited quantity... until now.

Gold In The Trunk Records proudly presents "Where You At" – b/w the DJ cut "Pete's Theme (Bass Mix)" – for the first time in digital format and limited 7" vinyl. Turn it up!!
