Les Blank's cajun/zydeco doc I Went To The Dance @ Hot Docs Cinema, Friday to Sunday

Les Blank's classic cajun/zydeco music documentary I Went To The Dance screens on Friday at 1 pm and Saturday at 6pm.

Here's the scoop...
Fully restored in 5K and re-released for its 35th anniversary, Les Blank's lesser-seen feature on the music and culture of Southern Louisiana is just as gleeful and fascinating as his other films. I Went to the Dance (J'ai été au bal) is the seminal film on the history of the foot-stomping, toe-tapping music of French Southwest Louisiana and features many Cajun and Zydeco greats, Michael Doucet, BeauSoleil, Clifton Chenier, Canray Fontenot, Marc and Ann Savoy, D.L. Menard, Boozoo Chavis and many more.

I Went to the Dance (J'ai été au bal) celebrates the music of Southwest Louisiana. Blank, Strachwitz and Gosling's film brims with tender affection for its subjects, the vitality of their marvelous music, and a generosity of spirit. Screens Friday (Jan 5) at 1 pm, Saturday (Jan 6) at 6 pm and Sunday (Jan 7) at 11 am.

In English and French with English subtitles.
