Toronto's Play De Record to star in new documentary film Drop The Needle

Exactly when the film Drop The Needle remains unknown but Eugene Tam still runs Play De Record at 411 Spadina.

Here's the scoop...

Filmmaker Rob Freeman – who made the Toronto Raptors documentary Northern Uprising – decided to try something about music for his next project and his co-producer Neil Acharya suggested venerable Toronto record store Play De Record as a worthy subject. The resulting documentary, Drop the Needle, looks at the impact Play De Record has had on the Canadian music scene over the past 30 years.

While no release date has yet to be announced for Drop The Needle, the film is finished and said to include interview clips with store owner Eugene Tam, the Tam family, longtime employee and DJ Jason Palma and a large cast of producers, artists and DJs who've visited the store over the years including comedian and music fan Russell Peters, Skratch Bastid, Mastermind, Starting From Scratch, Marcus Visionary, Nick Holder, DJX, DJ Agile, Saukrates, Jonathan Ramos, DJ Power, Ron Nelson, Lindo P, MelBoogie, Kid Kut, K-Note, DJ Kemo, DJ Grouch, Frankenstein, David 'Click' Cox, Dave Cooper, Dan-e-o, Bassline, Mr. Attic, Aki Abe of Cosmos Records, 2Rude,  DJ Dopey, Michele Geister, Jesse Ohtake, Tough Dumplin and others.
