Doug Paisley's new album Starter Home album is out now on No Quarter. Check out the title track below. |
To make his first album in nearly 5 years, singer/songwriter Doug Paisley stayed in his hometown of Toronto playing with old friends and collaborators, and recording in home studios around the city. He spent the previous few years writing, and Starter Home showcases an already brilliant songwriter getting even better.
Perhaps a reaction to 2010's Constant Companion (2010) and 2009's self-titled debut, both recorded quickly, over a matter of days, Starter Home falls in between. Though Paisley took his time to make the record, the goal was simplicity, with a desire to remain focused on the songs. The recording itself is quiet, often only minimally adorned.
Between albums, Paisley started a family and took some time off from touring. He continued performing live locally, with an on and off residency at Toronto's venerable Cameron House. The weekly shows featured a revolving cast of local musicians, and often served as a showcase for the new material. It is where these songs first came to life.
