Jane Weaver shares songs from John Parish-produced album Love In Constant Spectacle

Jane Weaver's forthcoming album Love In Constant Spectacle – produced by PJ Harvey's sidekick John Parish – is out April 5th.

Here's the scoop...

Recalibrating her singular journey in the British musical landscape with her most open-hearted, direct and intimate collection of material yet. Jane Weaver returns with brand new album Love In Constant Spectacle set for release on April 5th via Fire Records.

Weaver’s new album evokes spectacular imagery and distils the artists’ vision in its purest form, elevating her inimitable sound and poetic vision to new heights. Recapturing the melancholy of her early work whilst propelling it forward, she sketches scenes as we watch new colours, shapes and languages emerge and fill the frame. Love In Constant Spectacle is Weaver’s first album since 2021’s unanimously lauded ‘Flock’ and sees her take measured steps towards a vivid, dreamlike record, that offers resolve in the face of life’s inevitability.

Originating from an arpeggiated loop, album opener and new single ‘Perfect Storm’ conjures little scenes, vignettes of someone frantic, who can foresee something unfortunate on the horizon. Floating into consciousness with a subliminal and meandering groove, there’s a captivating ambience as we ascend on our journey.

The foundations of Weaver’s sound are still evident – lush motorik drums, pulsating bass, custom modded synths and exotic fuzz pedals – but the stream is awash with scrabble piece poetry and Letraset lullabies leading to lush escapism, the free abandon that you’d associate with free jazz and the avant-garde. But, as determined and visionary as Weaver might be, Love In Constant Spectacle wasn’t executed without assistance. Here we find a long mooted unison with Jane’s first ever producer, John Parish (PJ Harvey, Eels, 16 Horsepower, Rokia Traoré, Giant Sand, Dry Cleaning), who has shared Weaver’s process in the surrounds of Rockfield Studios and Geoff Barrow’s Invada studio. Pouring all her resources, in multiple contexts, has paid-off before the needle drops.
For a musician who has persistently created her own worlds, this new album may be more conceptual in its execution than initially meets the eye. Taking cues from international cinema, it sees Jane experimenting with new writing techniques through randomizing and translating language. More escapist than its predecessor, it draws on themes of mortality and fragility, of how we ground and prepare ourself for loss. This is all framed within its own universe, where themes are articulated through abstract means, where language is cut up and reconfigured to offer new perspectives on the experiences that shape us.

Love In Constant Spectacle is otherworldly, it is both intimate yet distant, a surrealist interpretation of the foundations that make us human – the stories and landscapes it paints are habitats of their own. A voyage into undisclosed pastures, it’s a heartfelt manifesto from an artist that continues to boundlessly evolve with each chapter in her career.

Jane Weaver's Sunset Dreams EP offers different view of Flock

The 6-track Sunset Dreams EP features creative remixes of songs from Jane Weaver's Flock LP plus two new tracks.   Photo: Nic Chapman

Here's the scoop...

A brand new six-track EP elevating the acclaimed new Jane Weaver album, ‘Flock’ to a new esoteric panorama of new pop. ‘Sunset Dreams’ features unreleased new tracks from the ‘Flock’ sessions and remixes from W.H. Lung and See Thru Hands that was released digitally on Tuesday (September 28) via Fire Records ahead of her UK/IRE tour.

One of the most requested selections from her unanimously celebrated 2021 ‘Flock’ LP, new single ‘Sunset Dreams’ is a collaboration between Weaver and long term co-conspirator Andy Votel. The product of the duo’s helplessly expansive listening habitat, the single is the result of Votel’s obsessive digging and Weaver’s mutable songwriting skills which defiantly (and respectfully) transforms this 1980’s mock-Eastern French New Wave sample into a multi-coloured mechanical mid-tempo, head-nodding-pop complete with radio-shack mic interference and broken Japanese toy sound effects. ‘Sunset Dreams’ retains Jane Weaver's returning commitment to sample culture that previously saw her collaborate with Dave Brock on 2016’s ‘Electric Mountain’, and provides a stylistic would-be sequel to classic Weaver tracks like ‘Don’t Take My Soul’ and ‘Modern Kosmology’. Harbouring deep conceptual lyricism and the kind of malfunctioning Funk that kept the bailiffs away from labels like Celluloid and Ze in the early 1980’s, ‘Sunset Dreams’ is yet another frame in the artist’s ongoing sonic adventures on a perfect pop planet from an alternative universe.

The EP features a lengthy mind-expanding, body-swooning excursion on pulsing remix of ‘Solarised’ that’s energised further by northern outfit W.H. Lung who dismantle and reassemble on this exceptional reworking. Furthering the eclectic electronic vibe, See Thru Hands here mix ‘The Revolution Of Super Visions’ alongside two new tracks; ‘The Lexical Distance’ and ‘Don’t Tell Me I’m Wrong’ that captures the pop vision of this ever-morphing electronic pioneer.

‘Sunset Dreams’ re-imagines parts of ‘Flock’ and continues the journey whilst shining a light on her glorious new album. Listen to Jane Weaver's previously unissued tracks, the Kraftwerkian 'The Lexical Distance' and the Stereolabby 'Don't Tell Me I'm Wrong' below.

Jane Weaver curates Fire Records comp Heaven On Fire

Jane Weaver focuses on female artists for the limited-run Heaven On Fire compilation out September 4.

Here's the scoop...

Love Record Stores takes place on September 4th and Fire Records is releasing a special vinyl LP for the occasion entitled ‘Heaven On Fire’ compiled by Jane Weaver.

In the age of the playlist, in times where the recommender is royalty, Jane Weaver threads together the spookily hauntological strains of recent Fire releases; sub-navigating styles and genres to create a soundtrack of neo-folk futurism that nods to psychedelia, dream-pop and electronica.

‘Heaven On Fire’ is a chilled-out coming of age, made by a new set of visionaries, lovingly assembled by Jane Weaver; a state-of-the-label address that gathers Vanishing Twin's 'Big Moonlight (Ookii Gekkou)' from their third opus ‘Ookii Gekkou’; the gorgeous ‘Ophelia’ from Marina Allen’s debut ‘Candlepower’; Mega Bog’s ‘Station To Station’ from her recently released ‘Life, and Another’; ‘St Francis Fountain’ from Virginia Wing’s new album; Gwenno’s remix of Islet’s ‘Geese’; Lucy Gooch’s ‘Rain’s Break’ from her first Fire release; ‘Reve Riviere’ from Faten Kanaan’s exotic ‘A Mythology of Circles’; Brigid Mae Power’s ‘We Weren’t Sure’ from her celebrated Fire debut of last year ‘Head Above The Water’; and US based Korean musician Okkyung Lee’s ambient gem ‘Here We Are (Once Again)’.

This exclusive compilation, limited to just 500 copies, will be pressed on deep red vinyl and features specially commissioned artwork by Emily Evans. Check out "Big Moonlight (Ookii Gekkou)" by Vanishing Twin, an impromptu side-of-the-road performance of "We Weren't Sure" by Brigid Mae Power and crew followed by Mega Bog's "Station To Station" after the track listing below.

Jane Weaver chats about her fab new Flock album

Jane Weaver discusses her impressive new Flock album with Emily on Rough Trade's Edit podcast right here

Here's the scoop on Flock...
Flock is the record that Jane Weaver always wanted to make, the most genuine version of herself, complete with unpretentious Day-Glo pop sensibilities, wit, kindness, humour and glamour. A consciously positive vision for negative times, a brooding and ethereal creation.

The album features an untested new fusion of seemingly unrelated compounds fused into an eco-friendly hum; pop music for post-new-normal times. Created from elements that should never date, its pop music reinvented. Still prevalent are the cosmic sounds, but ‘Flock’ is a natural rebellion to the recent releases which sees her decidedly move away from conceptual roots in favour of writing pop music. Produced on a complicated diet of bygone Lebanese torch songs, 1980's Russian Aerobics records and Australian Punk.

Amongst this broadcast of glistening sounds is ‘The Revolution Of Super Visions’, an untelevised Mothership connection, with Prince floating by as he plays scratchy guitar; it also features a funky whack-a-mole bass line and synth worms. It underlines the discordant pop vibe that permeates ‘Flock’ and concludes on ‘Solarised’, a super-catchy, totally infectious apocalypse, a radio-friendly groove for last dance lovers clinging together in an effort to save themselves before the end of the night.

The musician’s exposure to an abundance of lost records served as a reminder that you still feel like an outsider in this world and that by overcoming fears you can achieve artistic freedom. Jane Weaver continues to metamorphosize.

“The revolution accidentally happens because so many people visualise the same ideals and something supernatural occurs. Everyone is exhausted with social media, inequality and the toxic masculinity of world leaders contributing to a dying planet.” – Jane Weaver

Beautifully packaged, 'Flock' will be released digitally on Fire Records on January 1, 2021 and will be available on olive-green vinyl with a deluxe ‘tip-on’ sleeve and poster (Rough Trade Exclusive), cream vinyl (Indie Store Exclusive) along with standard light rose vinyl edition shipping March 5th. Modern Kosmology: In the studio with Jane Weaver

Jane Weaver's forthcoming Modern Kosmology album is out May 19 on Fire Records. Check the clip below.
Alone in a home-spun cocoon with a metronomic heartbeat and the phasing voice of her former and future selves, Jane Weaver is preparing for the launch of her new album Modern Kosmology (out May 19th) and sees her on an extensive tour across the UK and Ireland through October and November.

Self taught, self penned, self played, self produced, and all-autonomous Jane Weaver's Modern Kosmology is by no means a reclusive mission. Heavily influenced by a cast of lesser-known spiritual muse (such as automatic abstract painter Hilma Af Klint and her fabled pre-surrealist secret society) Jane also enlists the physical skills of CAN's Malcolm Mooney amongst a skeleton crew of Mancunian drum-lords and well versed psychedelic axe-men to punctuate Jane's synth-loaded sonic architecture. Jane's unwaning yearning for psychoactive pop energy has just reached a new level of magnetism. As snowclones go, Modern Kosmology is the new Silver. Another Spectrum to add to the tension.

Watch the video of Jane in Eve Studios with her trusty Roland string synth and Korg Poly Ensemble P as she discusses her evolution since the 2014 release of The Silver Globe.  Modern Kosmology is available for pre-order via Fire Records right here, with first single Slow Motion available to hear and download instantly at www.janeweavermusic.com
