Anyone in Toronto for the Jazz Festival and finding nothing terribly thrilling listed for Sunday – the closing night of the 10-day blowout – might want to go off the official schedule and check out mighty Michicago Afro-jazz crew NOMO at the Horseshoe (370 Queen West). Saxophone-honking and electric kalimba plinking frontman Elliott Bergman and his charged-up combo headz will provide the hard-thumping fireworks for your July 4 celebrations. Fans of Sun Ra, Fela Kuti, Segun Bucknor and/or Italo Calvino will be delighted.
