Happy Birthday Neko Case!

Celebrating Neko's birthday with her update of Anne Murray's 1972 hit Danny's Song written by Kenny Loggins.
When the folks behind HBO's Vinyl series approached sensational singer/songwriter Neko Case with the idea of covering Kenny Loggins' tune Danny's Song for use in an episode, she boldly took on the challenge of remaking a well-loved smash using an arrangement similar to the one which took Anne Murray's version to the top of the charts in 1972.

Check out Anne's original studio version after listening to Neko's update below. Right after that, you can hear a live yacht rock version by Kenny Loggins from 1981 where he reveals the origin of Danny's Song, a tune first recorded and released by his band Gator Creek – coincidentally, right around the time Neko was born in 1970.

Neko does such a swell job with Danny's Song, it makes you wonder whether she has plans to cover more smooth classics like say, Sailing by Christopher Cross, What A Fool Believes by the Doobie Brothers or Time Out Of Mind by Steely Dan. And knowing that way back in 2007, the New Pornographers ran a contest around the release of the Challengers album, asking fans to come up with yacht rock-inspired covers of their songs, it's entirely possible that a Neko Case Sings Your Yacht Rock Faves album has been considered, if not already in the works. Here's hoping it's on the way!
