Influential NYC hip hop radio personalities Stretch Armstrong & Bobbito Garcia will be at the T.O. screening.
During the 1990s, Stretch and Bobbito introduced the world to an unsigned Nas, Biggie Smalls, Wu-Tang, and Big Pun, as well as an unknown Jay Z, Eminem, and the Fugees from WKCR's Studio B. The total record sales for all the artists that premiered on their show exceed 300 million. The late-night program had a cult following in the art/fashion world and prison population as well. All would loyally tune in for the offbeat humor just as much for the exclusive tunes. Stretch and Bobbito brought a unique audience together, and created a platform that changed music forever.

In August of 1975, the world’s first punk record label was born. Ork Records: New York, New York is a tale of Terry Ork, a film-obsessed fugitive of Warhol’s Factory set. Ork would pull damaged, literate new rock music from the pregnant Bowery grime of CBGB, resulting in debut 45s by Television and Richard Hell, as well as landmark recordings by The Feelies and Lester Bangs.
It’s a tale of Charles Ball, who’d steer Ork Records through solo exploits by Big Star’s Alex Chilton and the dBs’ Chris Stamey. And it’s a tale told across 2 CD or 4 LPs s in scorching sides by Richard Lloyd, Marbles, Prix, Mick Farren, Cheetah Chrome, the Idols, the Erasers, the Revelons, Student Teachers, and Kenneth Higney's brilliantly off-kilter disco cash-in attempt "Funky Kinky" (listen below) which really deserves to be reissued as a 12" with remixes by say DFA and/or François K. Numero Group's deluxe 190-page hardback book features evocative, unseen imagery, a portal opened by on-the-scene photojournalists as crucial to documenting punk’s conception in the squalid Lower East Side as the walls of CBGB itself.

A limited-edition version of New York, New York includes a bonus Feelies 45 featuring two previously unreleased tracks. "The Boy With The Perpetual Nervousness" is an unreleased studio cut from 1978, while the flip is a cover of the Bacharach and David classic "My Little Red Book,” recorded live at CBGB December 14, 1976.

The swell new Sonny Smith-produced Shannon and the Clams album Gone By Dawnis out now on Hardly Art.
The American West. America’s America. It was here in three very different worlds that Shannon and the Clams were spawned. From the dark redwood forests of Oregon emerged Cody Blanchard: singer and guitarist. The dusty walnut orchards and vineyards of northern California gave us Shannon Shaw: singer and bassist. Out of the lonely dunes of California’s central coast shambled Nate Mayhem: drummer and keys. These three talented visual artists were drawn separately to Oakland, California and it was there that the Clams began playing house parties and grimy clubs.
The band was forged in the anachronistic remote communities of the west, in some strange mixture of computer show and country fair; their music is some odd alloy of The Last Picture Show and The Decline of Western Civilization. The pioneer spirit of western life is all over this band: pushing into the unknown, blazing their own trail, creating their own destiny, with the accompanying canyon-esque loneliness and untamed joy only truly known by those with the courage to pull up stakes and head off into the big empty sunset.
Gone by the Dawn, the newest Shannon and the Clams album, is their best work to date. The music is complex, the lyrical content is emotionally raw and honest, and the production is the strangest it’s ever been. The album was written as one member was recovering from a serious breakup and another was deep in one. The lyrics reflect it, and the entire album is dripping with sadness, pain, and introspection. Shannon and Cody have not written generic songs about love or the lack of it. Instead they have written about their very own specific heartbreak, mistreatment, and mental trials. The emotion is palpable. On Gone by the Dawn the Clams have DARED TO BE REAL. They’ve exposed their true emotions, which is what's most moving about the album. People are scared to be so real. Society does not encourage it. Folks remain guarded to protect themselves from being mocked, punished, and becoming outcast . The Clams have opted to forgo the potential tongue-clucking finger-waggers, and have instead had the artistic courage and audacity to splay their pain and struggles out for all to hear. We are lucky to hear them get so damn real.
For Gone by the Dawn, the Oakland trio hooked up with studio wizard and renaissance man Sonny Smith to record the album at Tiny Telephone Recording in San Francisco. Best known as the driving force behind San Francisco’s beloved Sonny and the Sunsets, Smith uses his refreshing production techniques to create an engaging sonic landscape without compromising the Clams’ signature Lou Christie-meets-The Circle Jerks sound. The Clams have evolved: their skills are sharper, their chops are tighter and weirder and they’ve added new instruments to to the mix. A whole new dimension of the Clams has emerged.
In the West everything is big. The mountains are towering, the rivers broad, the deserts vast, the canyons deep, and the emotions huge. The Clams have painted themselves into a massive landscape of sound and desolation. Gone by the Dawn is monumental; immense, magnificent, and unforgettable. Following in the footsteps of German World Jazz visionary Joachim-Ernst Berendt and his acclaimed "Jazz Meets The World" series on the collectible SABA Records label, Niko Schabel (Radio Citizen, Express Brass Band & part time member of the world jazz pioneers Embryo) and Tom Wieland (7 Samurai, Panoptikum Arkestra etc.) travel the world in search of new rhythm and sound inspirations. "During the 1960´s German jazz pope, journalist, writer & producer Joachim-Ernst Bernendt stepped across the Jazz border to extend European post bop jazz. A festival series in Berlin and nowadays highly in demand vinyl LP releases under the "Jazz meets the world" series name on the mythical black forrest label SABA records marked the arrival of proto-world music: Japan, Tunisia, Bali, Spain, Brazil, Africa, Switzerland went jazz ala Kraut.
"The testing ground for Berendt was a project involving German jazz trombonist Albert Mangesdorff who went on tour to Asia in 1964 and recorded the landmark modal album Now Jazz Ramwong based on Asian folk songs.
"Searching for new sounds arround the world (and working together with musicians from all arround the globe) almost became a mantra for the more open minded German musicians in the following decades from Krautrock to new wave and this is what Sound Voyage, my new project with Niko Schabel, is all about.
"So what happened to Berendt? In the late 80´s he donated his heavy weight jazz collection to the Jazz Institute Darmstadt and relocated to the island of Gomera where he went esoteric and became one of the most prolific writers of the scene with his book Nada Brama - The World Is Sound. He died tragically in February 2000 on the way to a new book presentation in Hamburg while crossing a red light." Tom Wieland

Apparently, these are all different winners of a special version of Blitzen Trapper's All Across This Land album.
To coincide with the October 2 release of Blitzen Trapper's new album All Across This Land, the band had 100 copies of a special signed edition of the LP distributed for sale in various indie record shops. The lucky Blitzen Trapper fans who found them were asked to post a photo of themselves with the album in the store where the record was discovered.
As can be seen from the random sampling of the proud new owners of the limited-edition version of All Across This Land, you have to wonder whether Blitzen Trapper has any followers who don't look like they could be band members.
